What is What Is My IP?
Your IP address is the public number every website, app and server sees when you connect to the internet. It's assigned by your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and acts as the return address for the data you request — without it, replies wouldn't know how to find you.
This tool shows the exact IP your browser is presenting right now, split into IPv4 and IPv6, plus the approximate location, timezone and map coordinates that any site can derive from that IP. It's the same information advertisers, fraud systems and geo-blocking services use.
How it works
There's no probe and no database lookup on your end — the answer is already in your request:
- 1We read the connection — When your browser hits this page, our edge network records the source IP of the TCP connection. That's your real public IP — the one the wider internet routes back to.
- 2IPv4 vs IPv6 — Your browser only connects over one protocol at a time — usually IPv6 — so our edge sees just that address. To show both, we detect the other family through Cloudflare's public icanhazip service, which forces a connection over the missing protocol. If one still doesn't appear, your network is single-stack for this request.
- 3Geolocation from the edge — Our CDN maps the connecting IP to an approximate city, region, country, timezone and lat/long from its own geolocation data — instant, no lookup needed. When the edge has no coordinates for that IP (common on IPv6-first or satellite links), we geolocate the displayed address so the map still fills in.
Everything you see is derived from your own request. We don't store it.
When you'd use it
Confirming a VPN or proxy
Turned on a VPN? Reload this page — if the IP and country still show your real location, the tunnel isn't actually carrying your traffic (a common 'split tunnel' or DNS-leak surprise).
Whitelisting your IP
Many dashboards, databases and SSH firewalls ask you to allow-list your current IP. Grab it here, copy it, paste it into the rule.
Debugging geo-blocking
A site says 'not available in your region'? Check what country your IP resolves to — geo-blocks key off this exact mapping, which is often wrong for mobile and datacenter IPs.
Reporting an abuse / support issue
Support teams frequently ask 'what's your IP?'. This gives them the public IP plus the reverse-DNS hostname, which together pinpoint your connection.
Checking IPv6 readiness
If the IPv6 card stays empty, your ISP or router isn't handing you a v6 address — useful to know before debugging v6-only services.
Reading the result
IPv4 / IPv6 address
Your public address per protocol. IPv4 looks like 185.58.65.36; IPv6 like 2a02:.... The PTR Lookup button resolves the reverse-DNS hostname your ISP assigned to the IP.
City / Region / Country
The approximate location the IP maps to. Accuracy is good at country level and roughly city level — it points at your ISP's routing, not your street address.
Timezone & Coordinates
The IANA timezone (e.g. Europe/Vilnius) and the lat/long the map pin uses. These are estimates derived from the IP, not GPS.
Common pitfalls
The city is wrong
IP geolocation is approximate. Mobile carriers, VPNs and large ISPs route through central gateways, so the 'city' can be hundreds of km off. Country is usually right; street-level never is.
This isn't your device's local IP
Addresses like 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x are your private LAN IP, visible only inside your network. This tool shows the public IP your router presents to the internet.
IPv6 missing doesn't mean broken
Plenty of connections are still IPv4-only. An empty IPv6 card is normal unless you specifically expect dual-stack.
No PTR record is common
Many residential and mobile IPs have no reverse-DNS entry, or a generic ISP-generated one. 'No PTR record' isn't an error.
