# Incident alerts in Microsoft Teams, as Adaptive Cards

Teams deprecated the old Office 365 connectors, so alerting there now runs through Workflows. Ours does too: you create a workflow that accepts an HTTP request and posts to a channel, and each incident arrives as an Adaptive Card rather than as a plain line of text.

## Setting it up

Workflows webhook (the supported replacement for connectors) .

- 1 In Teams, create a Workflow from the 'Post to a channel when a webhook request is received' template and pick the channel.
- 2 Copy the workflow's HTTP POST URL into Alerting → Channels & contacts → Add Channel → Microsoft Teams.
- 3 Attach contact groups and send a test.

## What the alert looks like in Microsoft Teams

An Adaptive Card with the incident title, the diagnosis, Expected vs Detected values, target, severity, start time, the confirming locations and a link through to the incident.

## Specific to Microsoft Teams

- Uses Workflows, not the retired Office 365 connectors.
- Cards render the same on desktop, web and mobile Teams.
- Grouped summaries during a storm, like every other chat channel.

## True of every channel

- Alerts fire on confirmed incidents, not on a single failed check, so one blip from one probe does not wake anyone.
- During a storm, several incidents inside the grouping window arrive as one summary rather than as twenty separate messages.
- Recovery closes the same thread it opened, with the outage duration attached.
- Every channel is on every plan, including the free one. There is no per-channel upsell.

## Questions people ask

Office 365 connectors are being retired — does this still work? Yes. Delivery uses a Workflows webhook, which is Microsoft's supported replacement for connectors. Nothing here depends on the retired path.

Do I need an admin to set it up? You need permission to create a Workflow in the team that owns the channel. In many organisations a channel owner can do this without a global admin.

Can different teams get different alerts? Yes. One channel per workflow URL, each attached to its own contact groups, and alert rules routed accordingly.
