# Uptime alerts in Discord, as embeds you can actually read

Discord is where a lot of small teams and game communities actually live, and it is a perfectly good place to be paged. Delivery uses a channel webhook you create in your own server — nothing to authorise on our side — and each incident arrives as an embed coloured by severity rather than as a wall of text.

## Setting it up

Channel webhook you create in your own server .

- 1 In Discord, open Server Settings → Integrations → Webhooks → New Webhook and choose the channel.
- 2 Copy the webhook URL and paste it into Alerting → Channels & contacts → Add Channel → Discord.
- 3 Optionally override the bot name and avatar, attach contact groups, and send a test.

## What the alert looks like in Discord

An embed coloured by state — red critical, amber warning, green recovery — titled `🔴 DOWN: API (prod)` and linking to the incident, with the diagnosis, Expected vs Detected, target, severity, start time and confirming locations as fields.

## Specific to Discord

- Nothing to authorise: the webhook belongs to your server, not to us.
- Bot username and avatar can be overridden per channel.
- A storm becomes one summary embed (`🔴 5 new incidents`) with a linked line per monitor.

## True of every channel

- Alerts fire on confirmed incidents, not on a single failed check, so one blip from one probe does not wake anyone.
- During a storm, several incidents inside the grouping window arrive as one summary rather than as twenty separate messages.
- Recovery closes the same thread it opened, with the outage duration attached.
- Every channel is on every plan, including the free one. There is no per-channel upsell.

## Questions people ask

Is there a WatchFor Discord bot to add? No bot, and no permissions to grant. Discord gives you a webhook URL for one channel; we post to it. Deleting the webhook in Discord ends delivery immediately.

Can I monitor a game server this way? Yes — a TCP, UDP or ping monitor on the server address, with the alerts landing in your Discord. UDP is the one that matters for most game protocols, and it is a monitor type many uptime services do not have.

Will it spam the channel during an outage? No. Alerts fire on confirmed incidents rather than single failed checks, and simultaneous incidents are grouped into one embed.
