# WatchFor in your terminal: curl https://watchfor.io

Checking a certificate, a DNS record or a port shouldn't mean opening a browser and filling in a form. Now every free tool answers in your terminal: curl https://watchfor.io/tls/github.com grades TLS, /mtr/1.1.1.1 traces the path, /mx/gmail.com lists mail servers, from the WatchFor location nearest you. 36 commands, colour output, ?json for scripts and CI, no signup.

curl https://watchfor.io/tls/github.com — the grade, protocols and certificate in one screen.

curl https://watchfor.io/mtr/1.1.1.1 — every hop, its loss and latency.

curl https://watchfor.io — every command with an example to run.

The terminal page has every command to copy and real output from the probe fleet.

## Start here

curl https://watchfor.io

The help lists every command with an example you can run straight away.

## A few to try

Command What you get

curl https://watchfor.io/audit/example.com The whole site in one grade: domain, HTTPS, certificate, DNS, headers, email

curl https://watchfor.io/tls/github.com TLS grade A+ … F, protocols, certificate and HSTS

curl https://watchfor.io/mtr/1.1.1.1 Hop-by-hop path with loss and latency

curl https://watchfor.io/dns/github.com DNS records, TTLs and the resolver

curl https://watchfor.io/email/github.com SPF, DKIM and DMARC in one grade

curl https://watchfor.io/tcp/github.com:443 Is the port open, and what answers

curl https://watchfor.io/ip Just your public IP, for scripts

URL targets need no scheme: curl https://watchfor.io/headers/example.com .

## Made for scripts, too

- ?json returns the full result with real HTTP status codes: 200 when the check passed, 422 when it found a problem, 429 when you hit a limit.

- ?plain drops colour for logs and CI; wget gets it automatically.

- curl -fsS "https://watchfor.io/ssl/example.com?json" >/dev/null fails your pipeline when the certificate check fails.

Works with curl, wget, HTTPie and xh.

## Fair use

The terminal runs the same free tools as the website, with the same anonymous limits. Only check systems you own or are allowed to test; every run is logged so misuse can be traced, and abusive addresses are blocked. The rules are in section 12 of the [Terms of Service](/legal/terms).

Everything else is on the new [terminal page](/terminal), including a few easter eggs.
