# New heartbeat monitors stay quiet until the first ping

A heartbeat or cron monitor created before its job was deployed opened a critical "Missed check-ins" incident and notified on-call while its page still said "Waiting for first ping". Now a new monitor stays quiet until the first ping arrives; from then on every missed window alerts as before.
