# Terms and Privacy Policy updated: data retention and plan changes

Our Terms and Privacy Policy didn't say how long your monitoring data is kept or what happens to it when you delete something. Now they do: uptime and incident history are kept for as long as the monitor exists, check results, charts and screenshots follow your plan's windows, and deleting a monitor or organization deletes its data automatically, normally within a day. The Terms also describe how upgrades, downgrades and failed payments work.

## What changed

- Terms, new section 9a (Data Retention): each kind of data and the window it is kept for — uptime, SLA and incident history for as long as the monitor exists on every plan; check results, charts and reports, screenshots and traces, and the activity log for your plan's periods, listed on the [pricing page](/pricing) and in [Data retention](/docs/organization/data-retention).

- Terms, section 10 (Data Deletion): deleting a monitor, organization or account deletes its check history, charts, screenshots, traces and performance reports automatically, normally within 24 hours. Deleting an organization with an active subscription cancels the subscription.

- Terms, section 6: upgrades apply right away and are charged pro rata; downgrades and yearly-to-monthly switches apply at the end of the billing period; whatever a smaller plan doesn't cover is paused, never deleted; a failed renewal keeps the plan working for 7 days while the payment is retried.

- Privacy Policy, section 6: how long monitoring data, the activity log and expired sign-in sessions are kept.
