# Prometheus metrics endpoint and Grafana dashboard

If your team lives in Grafana, WatchFor was one more tab to check. Now your own Prometheus can scrape GET /api/v1/metrics with an API key: monitor status, uptime over 24 hours, 7 and 30 days, response times, certificate and domain expiry, heartbeat check-ins and hosts, refreshed every minute. A ready-made Grafana dashboard and an open-source exporter come with it. Included in the Pro plan and above.

The ready-made Grafana dashboard, fed by your own Prometheus.

## What you get

- The dashboard's numbers in your stack. Status follows the same rule as the dashboard (down means a confirmed critical incident), and uptime counts confirmed critical downtime only, with maintenance excluded.

- Cheap to scrape. Each monitor costs about a dozen series. Names and tags sit on one info series, so a rename never splits history. The response refreshes once a minute; scrape every 60 seconds.

- Filters. tag , type and monitor_id narrow a scrape, and include_hosts=false leaves hosts out.

- A Grafana dashboard with fleet health, a status timeline, uptime against an SLO target you choose, response times, certificate and domain expiry, heartbeats and hosts.

- An open-source exporter ([watchfor-io/prometheus-exporter](https://github.com/watchfor-io/prometheus-exporter)) for several organizations behind one target, keys kept in a Kubernetes secret, or a scrape target inside your cluster. It reports its own health, so a revoked key shows up as an alert instead of a gap in a graph.

## How to start

Create a read key under Settings → API keys , add a scrape job for https://watchfor.io/api/v1/metrics with the key as a bearer token, and import the dashboard. The [Prometheus docs](/docs/api/prometheus) have the config, every metric and example alert rules.

The walkthrough on the blog, [Uptime monitoring in Grafana](/blog/prometheus-grafana-uptime-monitoring), has the queries worth keeping and screenshots of the dashboard.
