# Server monitoring and the open-source agent, explained on their own pages

Could WatchFor see inside a server, not only reach it from the outside? The question came up often, and the answer lived in the docs. Two new pages fix that. Server monitoring shows what a host reports — CPU, memory, disk, network and processes — the alert rules that come switched on, and what each plan includes. The agent explains the open-source watchfor-agent: what it collects, how it is secured (its own unprivileged user, outbound HTTPS only, signed and reproducible releases) and how to install it with one command. Both are in the Product menu under Servers & Hosts.

## What's on the two pages

- [Server monitoring](/server-monitoring) is the overview. It shows what a host reports (CPU, memory, disk, network and processes), the alerts that are on from the start (a silent agent, a filling disk, memory pressure), where hosts show up besides the Hosts page, and what each plan includes.

- [The agent](/agent) is for the person who will run it on a server. It covers what watchfor-agent collects and what it never does: it runs as its own unprivileged user, opens outbound HTTPS connections only, takes no commands from the server, and every release is signed and built twice, on separate machines, to check the binaries come out identical. It also walks through the one-line install, from token to first alert.

## Who they're for

If you're weighing whether WatchFor can replace a separate tool for your servers, start with Server monitoring. If someone on your team has to approve an agent before it goes on production machines, send them the agent page.

Both are in the Product menu under Servers & Hosts . Already running hosts? The [Hosts docs](/docs/hosts) go deeper: configuration, the health check, upgrades and every alert rule.
