# The website audit now ends in a grade, and checks three more things

The Smart Website Checker gave you a scorecard, but no way to answer "so is this good or not?" in one glance. It now ends with a letter grade, alongside exactly what cost it points and anything it could not measure — the full rubric is published, including what caps a grade no matter how well the rest scores. Three new checks arrived with it: whether your address sits on a mail blacklist, whether your site has settled on one address with http redirecting to https, and whether an advertised IPv6 address actually answers.

The letter comes with the score, the reasons and what to do next.

## Why a grade

Twenty green and amber rows don't tell you whether to worry. A letter does, as long as you can see how it was reached.

## How the letter is worked out

- Every scan starts at 100 points. Each section has a published weight. A warning costs half of it and a critical finding costs all of it.

- Some problems decide the grade on their own. A site that does not answer, a certificate that has expired or is not trusted, or a lapsed domain is an F, however well the rest scores. Any critical finding means C at best.

- The report lists every deduction, and the reason for a capped grade sits next to the letter.

- A check that timed out costs nothing, and the report names what it could not measure.

## Three new checks

- Reputation: is your site's address on a mail blacklist?

- Addresses and redirects: does the site settle on one address, and does http:// redirect to https:// ?

- IPv6: if the domain publishes an IPv6 address, does that address actually answer?

## An example

Your site is fine except that it sends none of the recommended security headers. That section is worth 12 points and the finding is a warning, so it costs 6: you get 94, an A, with the missing headers listed under the grade. If the certificate expired next week, the same scan would say F, and say why.

Run it on the [Smart Website Checker](/smart-website-audit), free and without an account. The full rubric, weights and caps included, is in [How the website audit grade works](/docs/reference/audit-grade).
