# Every website audit finding now explains itself

A scan could tell you "No CAA record" and leave you to go and look up what that is, let alone whether it mattered. Every finding in the Smart Website Checker now comes with a plain-language explanation, the exact next step where there is one, and a link to the full write-up. Each section says what it actually checks before it says what it found, the summary is grouped into what to fix, what to do next and what is already working — and two checks that were sometimes quietly refused mid-scan now always run.

Each finding says what it means, what to do and where to read more.

## What a finding looks like now

Take "No CAA record". On its own that tells most people nothing. The finding now explains it in plain words: certificates come from certificate authorities, by default any of the hundred or so your browser trusts may issue one for your domain, and a CAA record is one DNS line naming the ones you actually use. Then comes the next step, written out so you can copy it:

yourdomain.com. IN CAA 0 issue "letsencrypt.org"

It also says what the change does not affect (visitors, and certificates you already hold) and links to a longer article.

## What else changed

- Each section opens with what it checks before it says what it found, so "Reputation" or "Addresses and redirects" makes sense even if you have never heard the term.

- The summary at the top is grouped into what to fix, what is worth doing next, and what is already working. Good news is said out loud too, so a clean section reads as a result, not as a gap.

- Where there is nothing to do, the finding says so instead of inventing a task.

- Two checks that were sometimes refused partway through a scan now always run.

## Try it

Run the [Smart Website Checker](/smart-website-audit) on your own domain; it is free and needs no account. Security header findings link to the new [guides](/changelog/2026-09-08-security-header-guides), and the [grading rubric](/docs/reference/audit-grade) explains how findings turn into the letter.
