# A new incident's first notification no longer waits behind an earlier one

If a channel had just delivered a notification, the next new incident on that channel could wait up to five minutes before its first message, because it was treated as a follow-up. That was our bug. The first message about any incident now goes out within 30 seconds, together with anything else that fires in that window; only follow-ups about an incident the channel has already delivered — its recovery, a repeat reminder — are batched for up to five minutes, and a new incident takes the pending ones along with it.
