# TLS Grade alert: pick a grade, not a number

The TLS Grade alert asked you to think in points (A+ = 6, B = 4…) and, once enabled, showed no control at all, so it was hard to tell what would actually fire. That was our doing; an SRE should not need the scoring table. The rule now works like Minimum TLS Version: open it and pick the lowest grade you accept — A+, A, B or C — with a one-line explanation of what fires. The numeric metric stays the same for API-created rules.
