# Ruby SDK + CLI

If your stack is Ruby, you should not be the one left writing raw HTTP calls. There is now an official Ruby client and `watchfor` CLI, alongside the TypeScript and Python ones. Zero dependencies, and it mirrors the REST API resource for resource: `gem install watchfor`, then `watchfor summary` in the terminal or `Watchfor::Client.new(api_key:)` in code.

## Quick start

gem install watchfor

require "watchfor"

wf = Watchfor::Client.new(api_key: "wf_live_...")
pp wf.summary
wf.incidents.list(status: "firing")["data"].each { |i| puts i["message"] }

The client covers monitors, alert rules, incidents, maintenance windows, contacts and contact groups, with the same names as the Python client. Errors raise Watchfor::Error .

## The CLI

export WATCHFOR_API_KEY=wf_live_...
watchfor summary
watchfor incidents --status firing

## An example

Your Rails app has a rake task that runs after each deploy. Two lines in it schedule a short maintenance window for the app's monitors while migrations run, so a slow migration doesn't page anyone.

See [SDKs & CLI](/docs/api#sdks--cli) and the gem on [RubyGems](https://rubygems.org/gems/watchfor).
