# Python SDK + CLI for WatchFor

If Python is where your ops scripts live, you should not have to hand-write HTTP calls to reach WatchFor. There is now an official Python SDK and command-line tool alongside the TypeScript one: pip install watchfor, then manage monitors, incidents and maintenance windows from Python or the terminal. Zero dependencies.

## Quick start

pip install watchfor

from watchfor import WatchFor

wf = WatchFor(api_key="wf_live_...")
print(wf.summary())
for inc in wf.incidents.list(status="firing")["data"]:
print(inc["message"], inc["severity"])

The client covers monitors, alert rules, incidents, maintenance windows, contacts and contact groups. Errors raise WatchForError with the status, the error code and the message. It uses only the standard library and runs on Python 3.9 and newer.

## The CLI

The package also installs a watchfor command:

export WATCHFOR_API_KEY=wf_live_...
watchfor summary
watchfor incidents --status firing
watchfor checks <monitor-id>

## An example

Your weekly ops report is a Python script that already pulls numbers from three other tools. Four more lines add how many incidents fired this week and which monitors are down right now, with no HTTP code to write or maintain.

See [SDKs & CLI](/docs/api#sdks--cli) and the package on [PyPI](https://pypi.org/project/watchfor/).
