# MCP server — connect AI agents to WatchFor

If you already ask an AI assistant to help you debug an outage, it should be able to see your monitoring too. WatchFor now has an MCP server, so Claude, Cursor and any MCP-capable agent can work with it through 37 tools: check what is up, investigate incidents with MTTR stats, create monitors and alert rules, run on-demand checks and schedule maintenance. Access is secured by your existing API keys and their read/write scopes, so an agent can never do more than the key allows.

## What you can ask

Once connected, your assistant can answer and act on questions like these:

- "Is anything down right now, and why?"

- "Show me last week's incidents on the checkout API and the average time to resolve."

- "Create an HTTP monitor for staging.example.com from two European locations and alert me if it's slower than 2 seconds."

- "Run a check on the API now, I just deployed."

- "Schedule a 30-minute maintenance window tonight at 22:00 for the database monitors."

It reads the same data you see in the dashboard and makes changes through the same rules. Nothing is a separate copy.

## Safe by default

The server uses your API keys. With a read key the agent can look but not touch; it can create or change things only with a write key. Every change it makes appears in the Activity log under that key's name.

## Connect it

Create a key under Settings → API keys , then add the server to your client. In Claude Code:

claude mcp add --transport http watchfor https://watchfor.io/api/mcp \
--header "Authorization: Bearer wf_live_YOUR_KEY"

Cursor, VS Code and Claude Desktop setups are in the [MCP server docs](/docs/api/mcp).

Since then: you can [connect with OAuth instead of a key](/changelog/2026-08-26-oauth-mcp), and the server has grown well past the original 37 tools ([details](/changelog/2026-09-22-api-parity-with-dashboard)).
