# Discover every monitor type's metrics & settings via the API

Building a monitor or alert rule from a script or an AI agent meant guessing at field names and metric keys, then reading the error. A new machine-readable catalog at GET /api/v1/meta/monitor-types lists, for all 25 monitor types, the target format, default alert rules, every alert metric you can build a rule from, and every config field. Each monitor also returns its valid metrics inline, and the full human-readable reference lives in the docs.
