# Telegram alert notifications

For many small teams, Telegram is already where the on-call conversation happens. Alerts can now reach you there, delivered by the official WatchFor bot. Press Start on the bot (or add it to a group), paste your chat ID, and incident notifications arrive with full context: diagnosis, expected vs detected values, confirming locations and recovery updates.

Press Start on the bot and paste the chat ID it sends you.

## Set it up

- In Telegram, open [@WatchForAlertsBot](https://t.me/WatchForAlertsBot) and press Start . The bot replies with your chat ID .

- In WatchFor, go to Alerting → Channels & contacts → New channel → Telegram , paste the chat ID and attach the contact groups it should serve.

- Click Send test . A test message arrives within a couple of seconds.

No bot to build and no token to manage: the alerts come from the official WatchFor bot.

## For the whole team

Add the bot to a Telegram group. It posts the group's chat ID into the group right away, a negative number such as -1001234567890 . Paste that into the channel instead, and everyone in the group sees the alerts.

## What a message shows

The title says what happened, such as DOWN: API (prod) or UP: API (prod) . Below it come the diagnosis, expected and detected values, the target, the start time and the locations that confirmed it, with a link to the incident.

## Example

Your three-person team already talks in a Telegram group. You add the bot, paste the group's ID, and the next time the shop goes down everyone sees the same message with the reason in it. Nobody has to forward an email.
