# Import your monitors from Checkly (beta)

Rebuilding dozens of Checkly checks by hand is the chore that keeps you on a tool you have outgrown. Connect with your Checkly API key and Account ID and your API, URL and TCP checks come over as they are — methods, headers, auth, request bodies, status-code and text assertions, and send/expect strings included. Browser and Playwright flows are listed with a clear reason why they are skipped until browser monitoring lands.

## Where to find the credentials

In Checkly, create an API key under User Settings → API keys , and copy the Account ID from Account Settings → General . The import needs both, because Checkly scopes every API call to one account.

## How the import works

- Open Monitors → Import and pick the tool you are leaving.

- Paste the credentials. The dialog shows where to find them in that tool.

- Review the preview. Each monitor shows its WatchFor type, target and interval, with a note when something needs a second look, such as an interval raised to your plan's minimum or a rule that could not be carried over. Monitors that cannot be imported are listed with the reason.

- Untick what you don't want, choose which notification group gets the alerts, and import.

Imported monitors get a tag with the tool's name, so you can filter the whole batch later. Owners and admins can import.

## What to check afterwards

Assertions that have no WatchFor equivalent are named in the preview, so you know which ones to recreate as alert rules. Send and expect strings on TCP checks come over too; give them a quick look in the monitor's settings.

Since then, WatchFor has its own [Playwright browser checks](/changelog/2026-09-29-playwright-browser-checks). Browser and multi-step checks are still not imported automatically: paste their scripts into a new browser check.

The full flow, with screenshots, is in the [UptimeRobot import entry](/changelog/2026-07-23-uptimerobot-import). The [monitors guide](/docs/monitors#creating-a-monitor) covers import and the other ways to create monitors.
