# DNS Propagation checker

After a DNS change, refreshing one resolver over and over tells you nothing about what the rest of the world sees. The free DNS Propagation checker runs your lookup from monitoring locations around the globe and plots the answers on a world map, with per-resolver detail when you need to know which one is still serving the old record.

## What it does

Enter a domain and pick a record type. The lookup runs from WatchFor's monitoring locations in every region at the same time:

- each location appears on a world map, marked by whether its resolver answered, returned an error code such as NXDOMAIN, failed or timed out;

- a table lists every location with the answer it got, the resolver it used and the response time.

## Example

You moved your site to a new host and changed the A record an hour ago. Your own browser already sees the new server, but a customer in Singapore still lands on the old one. The table shows most locations answering with the new address and two still returning the old one, so you know it is a cache that hasn't expired, not a mistake in the zone.

## Where to find it

It shipped in the dashboard's Toolbox . Five days later it became a [public page](/dns-propagation-checker) anyone can use without an account, and signed-in users can [share a result](/changelog/2026-05-27-free-tools-shareable).

To keep watching a record after the change, a [DNS monitor](/docs/monitors/network#dns) checks it on a schedule and alerts when the answer differs from what you expect.
