# Website content checks

A site can be up and still be quietly broken: a missing favicon, a CDN that stopped fronting it, compression switched off in a deploy. There are now checks for favicon, CDN detection, Brotli compression, CMS detection and sitemap validity, so those regressions show up as monitors instead of as a surprise weeks later.

A sitemap check samples the URLs it lists.

The detected platform and the evidence for it.

## Five checks

- Favicon : the icon is found and served as an image, not as an error page. Favicon Missing is on as a warning.

- CDN : which CDN serves the URL, with an alert if it disappears or a different provider answers.

- Brotli : the page comes back Brotli-compressed when the browser asks for it. Catches a deploy that quietly falls back to gzip or no compression.

- CMS : detects WordPress, Drupal and other platforms behind a site.

- Sitemap : the sitemap is valid XML, and a sample of the URLs it lists (50 by default) still load. It alerts when the sitemap is missing or more than 20 % of the sample is broken.

## Example

A change to your CDN settings drops Content-Encoding: br . Pages still load, just heavier, and nobody notices. The Brotli monitor opens a warning incident that says the server returned no Content-Encoding header, so you know where to look.

## Where to start

Each one is a monitor type under New monitor . See [Performance & content](/docs/monitors/performance).

Since then, CMS monitors can [alert when the platform changes](/docs/monitors/performance#cms), CDN monitors [measure whether the edge really caches the URL](/changelog/2026-09-10-cdn-monitor-measures-caching), and most of these checks have a free one-off version, such as the [CDN checker](/cdn-checker) and the [sitemap checker](/sitemap-checker).
