# Monitor tags and bulk tagging

Past a few dozen monitors, a flat list stops being useful. You can now organize monitors with tags, and add or remove tags across many monitors at once instead of editing them one by one.

## The format

- Up to 10 tags per monitor, each up to 32 characters.

- Lowercase letters, digits, hyphens and colons, so both plain labels ( production , eu ) and key:value pairs ( env:prod , team:payments ) work.

## Adding tags

- When you create a monitor, or later on its Settings tab. Tags you already use are suggested as you type.

- In bulk: select several monitors in the list and choose Add tags or Remove tags .

## Finding monitors by tag

Type a tag in the monitor list's search box, such as env:prod , to see just that slice.

## Example

You add 30 monitors for a new EU region. Select them all, add region:eu once, and from then on one search shows the whole region. When the region moves to another team, select them again and add team:platform in one go.

Since then, tags also drive [status page components](/changelog/2026-05-16-public-status-pages) and [maintenance windows](/changelog/2026-08-10-maintenance-windows): a monitor you tag later joins them automatically. The REST API filters by tag too.
